Waffen SS officer field cap ideas?

Hello all, I came across this field cap; the seller let me took some pictures of it so i could ask around; because i'm no expert in this field. So i hope someone around here can help me; the stamping is not clear anymore, but i can see it are 2 different stampings under eachother. Any help would be most appreciated; greetings,

You won't enjoy collecting SS items if you felt that cap stood even a remote chance.

to be honnest i really do.. i love the research and learn about items; i'm not collecting for a very long time (6 months now); and found a collector who is selling all his WW2 stuff (and he's collecting for over 40 years) and he always lets me take pictures and investigate before i buy stuff; i prefer buying something when i'm quite sure it's okay, and i really don't care posting pictures on forums and asking opinions of people knowing a lot more than me; because that way; in a' few' years; i can be one of you guys helping other beginning collectors.. I can say for collecting 6 months i have quite a nice collection with some quite rare items from EKM's to patches,... (which i know are original; because i used different forums all over the web and had the stuff watched at by experts and long time collectors. I prefer collecting this way; than just buying and never being 100% sure because of my lack of knowledge..but that is offcourse just my opinion..

Collecting SS is an expensive pastime and fraught with the danger of buying reproductions. That is why these forums are so important. However, the new collector doesn't need to feel belittled, just because he has posted an item, that the more knowledgeable members recognise as dud. It will put him off trying again and may prove costly in the long run. It would be more informative to explain why it is wrong, as he has only been here 2 months. Collectors are the easiest people to dupe, generally, because they desperately want an item to be right. Let's try and avoid that.

Welcome to the forum. Don't worry, it gets a bit easier

Thank you very much sir; indeed it its; but for me it's also the most exciting stuff; and i don't mind paying more as long as the items i buy are original. I'm lucky I found someone who lets me take pictures first and inform about the items before I buy them; not everybody is that fortunate I guess..I have to say I bought a lot on a very short time and the only reason I could do this, is because of forums like this; where other collectors helped me with the items I was interested in. I'm starting to learn things; but it's just a whole lot; even the man where I buy from (a collector for over 40 years who even delivers stuff to musea etc) sometimes doubts or misses. I'll keep on posting stuff and I hope some people will be there to help me out. For some collectors some items are obvious; but most of the items I post; I see for the first time; and there's always a big difference in seeing pictures in books or the internet and seeing and feeling the actual item.

                  greetings,
                  Matthias

Well the insignia are abysmal and obvious fakes which even a very brief study of authentic cap insignia would reveal.

I'll let John continue with the cap itself ...

When I first started to collect SS Insignia there wasn't so much as a book and what was available was a photocopied sheet and that was rubbish.
If you even think you might like to collect this insignia then open your eyes and learn. Understand what goes on before jumping in head first.
I'll help anyone .... and have done for many many years as others still and do help me
A little stiff talking to doesn't hurt anyone
By being told on this forum might one day save you from getting burnt.
                        Regards

                          Cap

The SS troopers here on the forum can be a little harsh, and they sometimes forget the items THEY got fooled by, way back when. A lot of questions can be answered by using the WAF "SEARCH" above to see examples of how things should look. Don't be embarrassed for being a newbee in the hive, and don't worry about posting bad items. It helps other newbees learn, and we even have a section for funny skulls that makes the skull on this cap look like Sepp Dietrich must have worn it. If forum members give you a hard time, just give it right back. You'll do fine.
PS: Some good advice to newer collectors - if you stick to more common SS items, they may not be as exciting as the rarer stuff, but you'll sleep better at night, and your wife won't leave you for spending all the rent money. SS newspapers "Das Schwarz Korps", SS porcelain mess ware, Dachau SS collar tabs, etc, are just some items that are somewhat reasonable, and the forum is here to help, so you don't waste your money. As for the "little woman", just explain it's a good investment.

that's true sir; i will keep posting things; i don't see it as an insault. I understand that some things are obvious for some collectors, maybe one day for me too Thanks for your advice; the misses agrees with all my collecting hobbies; as an investment, SS stuff is indeed better than gold these days greetings, Matthias

If your Mrs agrees with your collecting, then either you're making her up, or you've got a woman that is rarer than anything you'll ever get in a collection.
