My Waffen SS grey fur lined winter parka

    Hello,

Just taken some pictures of my SS parka and thought I'd share them here. This is going to be used in building my first mannequin display. It is in excellent condition, nearly mint/unissued I'd say, the fur is very good still too. It also has a few modifications that are sometimes seen but not often on these parkas, such as the hanging tab to the interior. It is a nice large size, and has a '3' stamp to the inside of the front closure flap.

I believe this is the type that came out in 1944, as it has the fully buttoned closure to the front... but if anyone has any other information or ideas on how this should be set up as a mannequin (i.e with what equipment/what front, or battle etc) then I'd love to hear them.

    Thanks for looking!
    Pat

Congratulations Patty, that is a real nice one, looks to me to be unissued, I like the small stitching keeping the lower fur lining attached to tht outer shell, have not seen that before!

Thanks Scott! Yes those little stitch sections are on both sides to keep the fur close to the outer shell. I suppose they're just another uncommon feature like the hanging tab inside.
      Cheers

Hello Fred! Good to hear from you, yes indeed I think we both have first model, the pullover, no slash pockets and small hood.

Guaranteed unissued PAtty, that little string, there would be two, (one each side) would be the first thing to break if someone wore the jacket very long, those strings held the side of the fur to that side shell reinforcement triangle, you should check if the other one is intact or hanging on one side. I love seeing details like that which are mostly missing, never seen before as I mentioned, but it's purpose is obvious.

Hi there.... missed you in Holland last Summer.

I think we have the rarest version of these parka's, don't you think!

                      Hi Scott,
That's great and I can see why you collect the unissued uniform items now! They're both intact to both sides and yes they fix to the reinforcement triangles. I wondered what they were too as I'd never seen them in the pictures of other parkas. Have you seen them before with the thread still there but hanging down?

Hello Patrick, I will have to check my pieces when I have the chance sometime this week. Congratulations again on such a wonderful unissued piece!

Ok Scott, that'd be great if you could! Thanks again, I'm really pleased with getting this one after turning a few down beforehand!
