why are they not good ? I have used a blacklight on them and non of them reflected light.
The werd and estremely rare skull Insignia is from the 1930s

Panzer beret totenkopf. This SS skull was unique to the SS schutzmütze ( padded beret crash helmet ) worn by early SS armored units. The oversized machine embroidered skull displays the characteristic horizontal stitch lines and was complimented by the oversized eagle that was displayed above it.

The link doesn't really take you to a specific item. Personally I would like to see if you can find them for authentication. Photos? Unfortunately most will not explain there reasoning here. Mostly because the guys that fake this stuff can get an idea on how to make it a better fake.

I have never seen this eagle though. The guy Jon Pic knows a lot about eagles. He would be your best bet and he knows what he's talking about. I wouldn't ask him to go into detail. I asked once and he didn't like it.

The cap eagle (bevo) is 100% fake. Though I still think its the best copy ever made (they appeared in the early 80s) The beret eagle is definitely bad. the TK for the beret is very close, but because it shares the same charachteristics of the eagle I give it a negative. The eagle should be embroidered and have a mirror reverse (like rzm style) and not be padded.If this guy has collected SS for 20 yrs he knows he selling you a pile of s**t. Get your $$ back pronto. As far as smelling old he probably left it in with his good stuff. Hit that bevo eagle with a black light, it will light up like an xmas tree. The panzer beret insignia (if real) would run you 3-4 k ...GET YOUR MONEY BACK & AVOID SELLER AT ALL COSTS!!!!!

Heres the reverse of the one that sold on oakleaf for nearly $6,0000! You will notice the difference right away. The one pictured below is how the reverse SHOULD look. The one you purchased is clearly hand embroidered (probably Pakistan) Sorry to give you the bad news, hopefully you can get the $ back, but do it & do it fast! Regards Richard

Collecting SS stuff is not easy and there are a lot of fakes out there. Fakers already use threads without synthetic materials so the items could pass ultra violet tests.
The smell of old does not give any guarantee and in fact means a red flag at least from me -

We all started with fakes at some time taking them for originals

I agree with Ian on the trapezoid. The right eye looks a lot like the "Monicle" fake of the early 70s, but the rest looked like good old dachau depot issue. Of course with any item a good old hands on would help me in the final assessment. Rich
