The guy was a naval aviator so where he picked these up I have no idea.

          Very cool pick-up.

Looks like a promotion too from Untersturmführer to Obersturmführer judging by the placement of the pips and rank litzen. I like this set very much.

Very nice Gary...whenever I go to an estate sale all I get are run of the mill US stuff.

                    Congrats!

                    Regards,
                    Chris G.

Wow congrats, that is a real score (depending what you paid for it which I'm sure wasn't much). Strange things happened with returning vets. I picked up a standard party armband once from the family of a Pacific vet. The story he told (which they relayed to me second hand, as the vet had passed) was that he traded his neighbor (an ETO guy) for it for a Jap meatball flag.

                      Thanks for sharing!

And Chris, I know how you feel. Whenever I am fortunate enough to happen along an auction/estate with stuff, it's either A) beat up US web gear that's been put through the ringer or B) it's neat stuff but there are dealers with deep pockets who somehow rear their ugly heads at the sale. I swear, I could go to an auction in a town with one other collector and trust me, I'd find him.

Congratulations on the great set of insignia, the eagle is a real beauty.

Actually I make it a habit to pay very fairly for items. That way people know who I am and they call me. I get calls all the time and most of the time the stuff is run of the mill. However, my payment philosophy has always paid off because I get the good stuff too when it does show up.

There is still more to come from this estate. They have a barn (not kidding) that they are beginning to clear out and there is even more in there.
