    Bad Taste?

When exactly was "Dragnet Duke of Wales Arbiter of Good Taste" appointed to his exalted position? I didn't realize that military enthusiasts, especially Black Korps aficionados, were so easily offended. Perhaps I should attend sensitivity training. If you were looking for the "Cotillion Website", and landed here by accident, just ignore my comments.

To me the damage does not immediately stand out as looking artificial but that's just my opinion based on photos. I can't comment on the insignia but defer to the people more knowledgeable on that.

A reproduction hat like this made for reenactors can be had for less than $50. If this hat cost more than that, there is financial motivation.

I had a rabbit that could do this to a garment in a matter of minutes.

              Cap

Concerning "artificial wear", you look at an item that is ravaged, and ask yourself........."Self, what could have caused such damage? Moth holes? Holes from an explosion.....all certainly possible, but trying to induce "battle damage" is a lot like fakers trying to "make something new look old". You can't always explain WHY it doesn't look old, but it doesn't. To me the damage gave me the impression that someone really wanted you to believe it had REALLY been through hard battles. You also have to ask yourself what event occurred to completely obliterate the eagle. I used to have a green wool SS trap, and the embroidery is very flat and very tight. IMO, it'd be almost impossible to obliterate that eagle like this accidentally. You can't argue that they were de-Nazifying it, because the swastika is still there. Besides that, the skull doesn't look authentic.
