Woodwork SS Pennant

I think this is a vehicle pennant, but no one has been able to confirm. Does anyone have experience with something like this?

I can't speak for the originality, but cool pennant to be sure.

    cheers,

I also cannot speak for originality but it's a pennant for supporting members of the SS (Fahrzeugwimpel für Fördernde Mitglieder der SS).

Bernie, the FM of course means Fördernde Mitglieder as you write above. But has anyone seen any example of these in use pictured in any of the FM Zeitschrift magazines? I can see a civilian wearing proudly an FM pin on the lapel or dress. But, I find it hard to imagine a civilian installing a fender flag mounting device in order to drive around town sporting one of these flags. Maybe I don't have the right imagination.

But the FM was controlled by each SS Stürm and as illustrated in the various FM Zeitschrift, there was interaction between the SS unit members with their FM constituents. Perhaps these flags were designed for such purposes. Not necessarily for a vehicle, but perhaps for display at a function. Or, perhaps the flags were flown from vehicles used by SS Stürm unit charged with FM administration?

I don't know, but I can visualize a more logical use than giving them to FM constituents. If you give them to all FM members, the cost would cut into the FM income for the Stürm IMO.

Great info here, thank you guys. Is a pennant like this desirable from a collecting stand point, though?

It is coming out of the estate of a 94 year old veteran. The family seems to think it is something very special that should command a premium.

One was shown here a while ago and the consensus was that it was a fake/fantasy item.

I was under the impression that, while often faked, these flags did in fact exist.

Ian, I believe there is an FM pennant amongst the grouping of fake printed III Reich pennants that were turned out years ago. But the details of the one above seem quite different. I see the letters as chain stitching which is unheard of with fakes. I see the originator of this thread posted on the Flags Forum, but did not bother to use the search engine. Here is an excellent thread.

Cheers JoeW, I paid little attention to the one previously posted but remember it was outed as a fantasy item ?

                    Cheers, Ian.

The manufacture looks fine to me and these definitely did exist. Here is the listing for them from 1934. I believe this style of block lettering was the second pattern.

Thanks for all the great info.

Would anyone mind sending me a PM with what they believe the approximate fair value of this would be?

No Ian, the chain stitch exmples like this one are legit.

Finally have this in hand and wanted to add some high-res photos for future reference. It is really a very nice piece, and from what I've learned, quite rare.

White artifact in 2nd photo a piece of dust, not part of pennant.
