Steven and WAF members, since I'm not an expert, I don't think I can say positively yes or no, whether the boards that started this thread are original or not. However, I'd like to address a point brought up by N.C. Wyeth about the corded type of Waffenfarbe piping. This type of piping, is, in fact being reproduced, as I own a set that is sewn into the shoulders of a complete reproduction Officer's Field Blouse. Now, I'm not saying that the type I will show is as nice or convincingly original as on the panzer boards, but I simply show for the greater good and for members' awareness. Furthermore, I have a yellow piped EM set of boards (also reproduction) that also uses this type of corded piping. Lastly, I've not seen the "shiny" type of silver braid used on many boards outside of the luftwaffe, but I'm sure suppliers/tailors used what they could get ahold of. I'd also speculate that the preference of the Soldier also came into play. That being said, I'll also show a set of pink piped sew-in type boards that also uses the shiny silver braid on top, and to be honest, I don't know if that set is original WSS or not. I May take better pics and post that set in another thread. All pics were taken pretty hastily just a little while ago.
I commend you for your contribution . . . Thank You. This is the kind of reply in discussion [I would expect] all of us would long for - all neatly wrapped up, posed, and presented in the correct manner. Certainly, in no way, should you ever feel as if your commentary is a "hijack" of a topic . . . contrarily, this I believe, is what every inquiring mind should desire, when preemptively posing a question with, "is this OK?".
As far as the cord-type piping is concerned, I would say you may have opened a few more eyes to the ever-changing situation regarding these relics - mine included. Thanks again.
As I mentioned previously, in my experience, I have always been lead to believe that [good] repro boards of this type have never been concocted . . . but this contribution - if nothing else - tells me there has, at least, been an attempt. The first set of [pink for Panzer, "jg-53"] boards may indeed be genuine . . . but here we may now have cause, for the weary-minded. Caveat emptor.
Anyone change their mind? Or, besides, N. C. Wyeth, perhaps at least their frame of reference? If not, I guess I'll assume silence is consent of their originality! I see they are still for sale on the insignia table on the e-stand.
