Eidelweiss patch???

I do not know German military. This patch was in a bag of US patches that I have had for awhile and thought it may have been a Girl Scout patch. Recently while viewing a website I saw a patch like this and it was called EIDELWEISS, MOUNTAIN TROOPS or something to that affect. What can you folks tell me about my patch? Is it real? Who wore it and when? Value? Anything else you can pass on would be appreciated. Thanks.
