    SS Ammo Pouches

Dear all, I wonder whether this SS marked ammo pouch is good. Please reply. Thanks in advance.

Just to add that it is marked VA 406/38 SS. Thanks!

Personally I feel the VA & SS have been added .....
If the tab is yours sprinkle some talcum powder over the markings it will make the marks easy to see.

For discussion and self-learning purpose, I wonder whether other branches than SS, such as Heer/LW/KM, used such code, i.e. Maker number/Year. I have seen, of course, RB Numbers. But for such code in such an alleged early production year, according to my limited experience, I have not seen so because in the early years, makers' name were well marked.

        All comments are welcomed. Thanks.

Thanks for all the comments. Cossack 1648, do you know what does 406 refer to?

406 is a manufacturer code. I don't know however who was that particular number assigned to. My other pouch has 401 code.

Thanks for all the comments and replies. For my curiosity and sorry about my ignorance, why did the SS use such a manufacturer code even in the early years? Was it for security purpose? Thanks in advance!

I had one which I posted with just an SS stamp. It had little cracks in the leather radiating outwards from the stamp which indicated the stamp was applied after the leather was quite old and dried.

I don't see any radiating cracks on this one.

                    Regards

                      Is there any implication?

Yes, if radiating cracks around the stamp indicate a stamping applied after the leather has dried out which in turn implies a stamping long after the pouch was manufactured then surely the absence of these cracks leads me to infer that the stamp was applied when the pouch was newly manufactured when the leather had not dried out.

Here is a picture of the cracks on my one.

Old leather with a new stamp = cracks

                          Hope this helps

                          Warm regards

Thanks Panther. So, did you mean that the lack of cracks is a good sign of authenticity?
