Hi Robin,
No problem, I knew the cap was ok. The insignia is the silk screen variation. It is mentioned but not pictured in Cloth Insignia of the SS. Just wanted to see if anyone had ever seen this insignia before.
Cheers

Sorry - I jumped the gun as I didn't know you were posting other pictures.
Having seen the rest, the cap itself looks OK inside, but the insignia still looks very wrong to me. The tunic button on the cap is also technically wrong, although I have seen this in wartime pictures.

It's my opinion that all the "Dachau style" M43's have the same traits in common. This is my opinion from studying examples with veteran pedigree and quizing collectors that were lucky enough to have purchased this style of M43 from the veteran or their immediate family.
The one posted here lacks these common traits exclusive only to this style.

Please elaborate.

No problem on that! I am curious though. This one came from my wifes grandfather. He has a period photo of him with it, which I will be getting soon. What I was wondering about was where he got the hat. He is 506 PIR Normandy through the end, he married my wifes grandmother in Joiney France where they were on R&R, but there is no place I can think of where he picked up the hat and he can't remember where either, he has some nice AH stuff that he brought back as well as some HG things. I know the hat is real(well 99%) because he was not in a position to do any other collecting. He is written up in two books on the history of the Chicago mafia so as I said he was 'elsewhere' so no oportunity to go to gunshows or the like. I have a great photo of him being married and he seems to be sporting a Silver Star ribbon but his DD214 does not mention one so I am sure he just put it on. He did win the Bronze Star and was a bazooka man. I am doing a search through Army records now to see what else I can find.

I dont like the cap, and for my peace of mind I would stick to textbook example. I have seen the m43's from Dacua and they are like what Perry describes.
Sorry Gary,
