    A unique SS Ring

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone here could impart their knowledge in whether or not this SS ring was ever produced during WWII...

It's metal alloy construction and with no marks to interior so I'm wondering whether this was sanctioned by the government to be made or banged up by someone and it wasn't official? Did different rings require the same standard of high quality workmanship in the same way medals were? Because as you can see, the edge on the bottom right of the right S doesn't go straight down but at an angle, and the edge on the bottom half of the right S on the left has a little buldge and isn't straight down either. Is that the standard degree of quality?

Interested to know everyone's opinion on this.

    fantasy

I'm doubting this is a period ring.

    cheers,
    Pauli

What ever it is, it's kind of neat. Should have been made during the period, as a canteen ring, but we will never know.

What size is it? maybe its not a finger ring...usually most PP rings have some silver mark and can vary....it looks like silver, but can be tested easily without hurting the ring..., but I would be leary of it unless it was real cheap....like they said doubtful at first glance doesn't appear worn...always ask lots of questions of the people who sell such items....sometimes that can make a difference.....we may never know as a previous comment is spot on.

The size is 20mm diameter - sized US 10 1/4 or UK size U 1/2

The dealer claims he got this ring with a small group of items including the full service uniform of Captain Alexis Vedeniapine M.M, 3rd Battalion, The Parachute Regiment who served in North Africa, France & was a temporary company commander during Operation Market Garden & narrowly escaped capture during the fighting & breakout from Oosterbeek in Holland.

The dealer claims this is more than likely a souvenier he picked up from a beaten SS opponent.

What would be the validatory of the claims? I'm guessing this was a one off creation based on the opinions you guys have already given, but if it was made during the war, would it still be classified as fantasy?

Thanks for the info! I suspected something wasn't right since the workmanship looked quite poor compared to other SS rings, medals, and such.

One good thing about the ring is so far I have NOT seen this type faked. I also would tend to believe the story if the price wasnt too dear, asd was thrown in in a lot captured from the vet or ask if the vet is still alive to verify the story(when possible)

If you search Germania international on the Allgemeine pages, (like 23 of them in total) I have seen rings of different types, not necessary SS, but similar to this with the edges, just different other styles...it is possible the ring could be koser, although I am positive it could never have come from any captured soldiers in N. Africa....and there were no ss there...likely france or the time after D days invasion...I wouldn't give up on it yet....that is a provenance of sorts, and my only quandry is : why do people post things without telling what they know first, rather than saying nothing....with that information It changed the ball game...so I hope some smart guy hasn't already purchased it from you till you have had time to do more research and see if the veteran is still alive or his family members like a son recalls it oif dads gone...as many times that is the missing link to answers for such items nobody else would know....It could be original even without a silver mark....sorry to flop on you, but many times if you are not proactive to search all the leads before trying forums as a last resort , since you have the best information to start at..., you have not done all your homework first....learn to investigate for yourself as much as possible in the future....as many folks get chinga'd out of originals stuff here , even though they got negative reviews.....nobody knows it all, but the vets or their familys often recall stuff like that, and are usually quite helpful when seeking the truth, they have no reasons to lie once the collection is sold....sorry again...but lets hope you didn't dump it yet....I keep all things I can't identify so this does not happen , many times things turn out to be original after proper research has been effected..... so never quit till all the roads dead end...

Ghost, one thing I can tell you,,,a story is a story is a story,,and that's all it is.. IF we had a dollar for every Vet story about bringing home the Viking headed SS ring we both be rich 2 times over!

Hi, I didn't think any further information would be necessary, since the story became irrelevant in the end, because the pictures tell the true story - a fantasy ring.

I don't own the ring. I was only interested in it and a dealer was claiming it to be original which I was suspicious of since I've never seen the design before.

Thanks for your time though, at least others will see this design and know to stay clear.

Cool ring, I'd love to own it just for wearing.
