    SS Ring

I was hoping that someone could help me identify this ring. I know that the picture is fuzzy, the seller cannot send me a better one. Thanks

Any reputable dealer would never expect anyone to buy an extremely rare artifact, with such a single picture, and an extremely poor photograph at that. The size is fine, but you need CLEAR photos of different angles of the ring, including the inside, and any possible markings. Such rings are so rare, it's likely a fantasy ring, but if they can't do any better than that, forget about it.

Thank you for the advice. Still looking for some help tough. Before I have this person drive the hour and a half to me I was hoping someone could say " I've seen these and there junk" or "you should check it out because its a ????.

I usually stay away from rings because there are so many fakes. This person is animate this ring is authentic. He states there are markings inside but can't make them out and the ring appears to be silver.

The ring looks like it was cast. If it were a period ring like this, I'd expect it to be "stamped" out on a press. Such SS rings are quite scarce, and even if this were real, then it's been heavily cleaned, and or polished. But, IMO, it's NOT real. The best advice you'll get all day, is to forget that you ever saw it, and spend your money on items that aren't as exotic, but that you know are real.
We're here to help, so don't hesitate to ask for advice. If there were reliable stats on just how many private purchase SS rings out there are original, compared to fake ones, you'd probably be lucky if it was 5%. Do a Forum Search, and concentrate on acquiring an original KNOWN-PATTERN skull ring. They were worn by both Army AND SS.

          sgstandard,

Thank you for the nice reply. I do appreciate it and it is why I joined this forum. With that said I invited the seller out to look at his collection. Unfortunately the majority of his collection was fake or did not interest me. The ring in question really caught my eye as unusual. Of course he said he got it from a vet, which is a common answer, I don't put much credit into unless I'm dealing with the vet myself.

After hours of research, before he came out, I was not able to match it to any authentic ring or more oddly I could not match it to the standard fakes and reproductions. I went ahead and purchased the ring though knowing there was a small chance it was authentic. The risk will not break me.

Here are some quality pictures. It is stamped 835 I believe. The craftsmanship is quite poor IMO, or even hand made maybe. As stated earlier, rings are not my specialty and I have stayed away from them for years and as such have little knowledge of them.

          Your comments are appreciated.
