    Does this SS pin exist or purly fantasy

    I recently aquired this SS lapel pin, evrything looked correct but I was cut short with out any referance material. I had never seen it before. Did an original even exist or is this pure fantasy. Well, did I get boned or what???

    Hello Joe,
    I posted the same pin and got no responses a few months ago. I felt mine was a fantasy piece because I've never seen one in any text or period photo. I'll admit I haven't seen all photos from the war. Maybe someone will have additional information. It seems like alot of trouble for a faker to make such a piece with enamel which is lined and two color, not to mention the raised RZM marks. If it is a fake, which I'm leaning towards, it must not be that expensive to make after all. I hope someone else jumps in on this thread, pro or con. Let's learn what we can.

      Not exactly what you want to hear but in recent times I have seen fake NSDAP membership pins with exactly the same reverse, with varying manufacture codes. These can be bought for less than $5 US so it appears they don’t cost allot to make. I wounder how many of these type of badges are in peoples collections and they don’t realise it.

        Gary, these dont cost much to make at all. Next time you are standing in line at the grocery store, take a look at all the stuff hanging there, you will probably see a zodiac key chain made in the same fashion.

        From a fake standpoint though....

        Lets say this wasnt a SS pin, but something else..

        I still wouldnt buy it, the RZM mark is wrong for anything that I am aware of, there should be a slash through the Z.

            Joe,

            I'm not saying that your pin is good or bad, but I wouldn't say that it is purely a fantasy piece. Here is a picture of Reichsnahrstand leader Richard-Walther Darre wearing something similar:

              George;

              That looks to me to be the stickpin version that he's wearing. I believe the piece Joe posted is indeed a fantasy piece.
              Best regards,

              Tony

                stickpin?

                Yeah, I think you're right.

                Never mind!

                  Last week this same badge appeared on the GD Forum; the post was from a member in Belgium. One response said it is a fantasy piece that appeared about four years ago. Another post provided a link where they can be bought cheaply.

                    Hi,

                    stickpins like that existed.

                    It is the so-called "SS-Zivilabzeichen" If I remember exactly it was used by SS-men when they were in civilian clothes.

                    I cannot say if the posted pin is real or not, but it is not fantasy.

                    Best regards

                    Daniel

                      Thanks for your help guys so far. I want to post this item for sale but I don't want to if it's a fake.Does anyone have any pictorial evidence of this piece?
                      Thanks

                        spiess;

                        I agree 100% that the stickpin version did indeed exist and I stated that. It's the pinback item that Joseph posted that is a fantasy piece and I don't believe any WWII period photographic evidence of its existence can be provided. Ken, can you provide the link for where the pins like Josephs can be bought?
