    SS family chest surfaced!

Interesting news for all SS cultural collectors:

The son of SS-Standartenführer Willy Herbert gave the SS family chest of his parents as a donation to the NS-Dokumentationszentrum in Köln.

So many variations in these "cultural" items . . .

Interesting, TB - Thanks for pointing out. The chest in the photo looks pretty simple to me - and I don't doubt variation was the rule . . . as obvious to me, this one is certainly not as "fancy" carved as the examples you have attested to in the past.

Yes, this one is more dure.
But it´s interesting to notice which huge cultural orbetter say: religious influence the SS family book of Weitzel really had on it´s readers = the inner leading circle of the SS.
They were told to get a family chest done - and so they did.

Very nice. Style typical of Third Reich period design aesthetic, as companies such as the DHW produced, strong square lines etc..

              Indeed.

By the way: Here is the type of historical westphalian chest which was inspirational when creating the SS Jul chest - a typical example of the so-called Niederrhein-Truhe, also known as Vierfelder-Truhe.

              This one is dated: 1784.

For comparison: The pic of the Jul- und SS-Ecke in the SS family book.

thank you Thorsten for bringing this to the attention of the forum!

Very nice chest they show. I agree with Etienne, terrible article but interesting info on the celebrations documented.

I would like to see a closer photo of the chest that he is holding in the old blackand white photograph. Looks like a julleuchter is on the chest. Interesting too that he says an allach dog was also on there at one time.

For future reference, the most interesting part regarding rituals:

The photo: looks like a Lying Fox Terrier (Allach model nr.12)

Indeed they had a full Jul- und SS-Ecke in their household - only a tapestry is missing.

For me the most valuable info is not only that the Julleuchter was placed on the family chest throughout the year but that his older brother was baptized on the chest.

They celebrated their own religion by using these cultural objects.

Willy Herbert, Jr., or whatever his name is, shoulda joined the WAF for 25 Bucks and sold that on Estand.
