          I don't know about that theory Erich. After all, they did authorize gold color SS officer buckles for SS-Police Generals and Water Police officers. And, Himmler did not refrain from presenting a gold wash PPK as a gift to his comrade Fritz Weitzel.

          I seem to remember reading something about silver representing purity/honor, or something like that. And of course there was the economic factor of gold at $35 and ounce and silver at less than $.50 and ounce. That was SS money tied up in the silver that supplied their needs for SS-Ehrendegen parts, TK rings and SS-ZAs until those were discontinued.

            only gold HR that I remember was the one from about 12 years ago.
            US vet bring back he liked it and wore it daily. For some reason he had it gold plated after wearing it a couple years.
            The ring went up for sale,,was authenticated by Don and was restored / gold take off.
