combat cutoff SS bevo sleeve eagle on tunic remnant

    Hello all,

Why does this eagle appear so dark in color, is it just heavily soiled?

        hi,
Looks rather strange where is it's head , double stitched on the top section are we sure it's not just attached to a piece of scrap cloth? and soiled to suit ,even my well worn originally attached eagle is not that dark.

To make a more convincing fake?

How did that eagle get partially ripped off, stitching and all, with no apparent damage to the wool? Is that wool the type found on a tunic? No wear on the wool that I can see, unlike Merdocks. Just asking.......

Some aspects of the piece I like (like the sewing) but it appears to be a cut edge eagle and not one where the edges were folded back and then sewn. Tough to call

              Willi,

I don't think I am dealing with some kind of engineered fake here. These items were purchased at an Estate sale and everything else in the lot is authentic. As far as I can tell the eagle is an authentic EM/NCO bevo pattern I just didn't understand the coloration of it. As to the wear of the late-war wool from the sleeve I guess it just looks different in hand, but it is certainly old. How the eagle's wing got ripped off is beyond me, perhaps prior during combat fighting, and unrelated to the eagle being cut from the tunic? The zig-zag stitching is correct for late-war applied eagles anyhow, isn't it?

William your eagle is of a different pattern to Merdocks when comparing the two yours does look to have the head missing.Your eagle in mint condition has a very flat head so only a small fraction is hidden by the way it was applied.I still think it is good,I too cant explain the missing wing, but i like it all the same.
Here is a mint version of your eagle you can see how easy it would be to loose the very top of it's head on aplication.
I also think your eagle is less common pattern.
                Cheers

I've seen them double stitched to top before but must admit first line of stitching being line stitch [I'd assume to locate eagle in position] then zig zagged all the way around!
I like the look of it!
bet if you look in the gap of broken wing, under the eagle is fresh material!
                  good luck,,,,
