the runes look a bit clumsy/crude made to me...

hard to say for a ground dug piece, I only can judge them by the quality and manufacturing details.

If I were you I would clean it up.From the pictures shown I believe it has a good chance to be original.Most of the details are shown in the images but there is some earth on it.
