    Trust me...

Trust me, Betz is the nice Guy.

51 pages? We have all read thousands of pages sometimes on the narrowest and most esoteric tangental points. This Hobby requires a diligence and dedication that few possess.

If I could just post items up and with zero homework get a definitive answer I would take any perceived insult with glee.

Is this thread a wind up ?
The tab that started this thread is complete rubbish and if the owner requires a thesis to be written on why it is rubbish then i suggest they change the medication they must be taking, its obviously not doing the job its intended too !

Great, more guys who didn't read the entire post. Either contribute, or stay off someone's post. Once you get that in your head, things will go a lot smoother. Looking through past posts it seems most of you attack newbies with the same amount of hospitality that I received. I am not a collector of SS stuff and never will be. All I needed was a quick answer as to why it was or was not fake and all I got was a bunch of members acting like complete jerks. If you all have your own little high school clique, leave me out of it. Nuff said. More names added to the ignore list.

I guess that includes me as well. Only tried to help. Now I am a jerk as well. I can live with that, no problems and no offence taken. I know my things so to speak. Several members with great knowledge has given their opinion including M Bando, Mr Betz and Dr Totenkopf and others. Mr Bando even tried to explain in detail, but you did not buy it or did you not understand? I did not bother because I have other things to do than to convince you. We are not here to herass new members, but we are here to give a verdict on what is not original ot not. Thats free advice for you. I think you should be greatful. But you responded like in frustation. We all welcome new collectors and please feel free to ask for any advice, but then you must be able to recieve it. This forum beats any refence books you can buy and if I were in your shues I would be greatful for the advice given.

The rune tab your posted is one of the worst fakes or fantasy items I have ever seen. 98-99 % of all original SS officer tabs follows a pattern and they are embroidered on to of a paper template to give it the correct shape (as in the photo shown) None of the reast looks like your one, 100% sure, Or I give you a USD 1000 for free.

You owe an appology to the members here and you are most welcome back with questions, but please be a bit more humble and trust the opinions given here. You have already made yourself not very popular here and I guess some members wont help you again. Please do not make that any worse and accept what is a fact.

              Cheers

Construction is completely amateurish. Any 10 year old can see why it is bad (no need to prepare a dissertation to show it is bad). However, even though your original post only asked "what is it worth", it really boils down to the fact that you did not like the responses given and now you are trying to punish and insult the messengers. I don't really know how old you are, but you really need to grow up a little. Nobody in this forum owes you anything.

You got on here running your mouth which was not necessary unless you were willing to contribute. Then I have someone newer and more confused than me get on here telling me I'm not saying please and thankyou. It's not everyone, just a few that want to act like complete A-holes. Either contribute, or stay away, very simple.
I am in no way newer than you, nor confused(I've never used those words in all my 32 post). I have a well respected collection and have spent many hours studying, as most know, something you seem unwilling to do. This is not my home forum, therefore, I don't post here often, mainly due to members such as yourself. And who are you to tell someone to stay away.... I will, however, reserve further comment out of respect to this forum and myself, but know who you are talking about prior to classifying them in anyway.

Add: Even the novice collector could see why said tab is fake. By the time I added my post, the tab had been addressed to what I thought was satisfactory, yet your poor attitude hadn't, and although I can break it down for you and explain it and all the finer details, I won't because of your tone with others and unwillingness to do any work.
Go collect pez or bottles or something of such if you want the easy way out, but this hobby has no room for the lazy. I've spent thousands of dollars and countless hours in study to earn my knowledge and reputation, which is a must if one wants to survive in this hobby which has been intertwined with so many variants and well-made reproductions.

That's how I started long before the internet and being spoon fed and doing your own research too ...

Felix I didn't have any problems with you and I appreciate your help, but you too need to read the entire conversation over again. I acknowledged that it was fake, that's fine, thank you. I don't care that it's fake but after finding out it was fake, I just wanted to know why. It's when I asked why it was fake is where the problems arose. No one could answer or didn't want to answer. I owe no one an apology. Next time if you're too busy to "convince me" don't even get on and comment. The fact that you say that fakes were made on paper so as to give them shape would have helped a lot. I can clearly see a cardboard material sticking out. Why not just say that to begin with?

WalterB, it's comments like yours that keep pissing me off. Go back and read the entire conversation before getting on here and making yourself look stupid. Not once, did I EVER disagree with ANYONE when they said it was fake. Show me where I disagreed with someone. "Punish and insult the messangers?" What the hell are you talking about?

My buddy has already thrown it out, so it's gone. The problem arose when I asked WHY it was fake and everyone got their panties in a wad. Because over half who screamed fake, especially those that made snide comments, didn't know. And I can't believe that you said that the original question was "What's it worth" The original question was " Is this SS Collart tab real... If it is real, what's it worth and where would you sell it? If it's fake what is it worth?"

My second question was then what was the giveaway that told everyone it was fake.

So next time you want to quote me, don't edit it to your liking, ok?

Books would help Sam but I always hear about certain books containing fakes. Is there a list of books out there that says which books are legit, and which ones aren't?

No wonder no kids want to take this up as a hobby!

                            Can you blame them?

I see this same thing at gun shows Jock. Someone brings grandpa's stuff into a show and the dealer belittles them and all of their stuff so they can get it at a cheaper price. Once they have it, it's suddenly gold! Pretty common dealer tactic here in America.

Try "Insignia & Artifacts of the Waffen SS by Bando. $80 at Amazon or Collector's Guide to the Waffen-SS by Lumsden.
