    Shooting prize

I am not holding my breath on this one but does it have a chance of being a period piece or is it just some postwar dream piece of junk?
    Opinions welcome

I don't like it. The patination is "off" on the engraved largest part and the engraving style looks like the crap we have been drwoning in the past few years. I would not want this for my collection.

I am sure there must be thousands of pieces around like this ......
But sadly you are never going to know it's history even though it just might be what it seems to be.
Unless you have photographic evidence I feel it best you leave it a lone ......
        Regards
        David

          Totally ruined old cup

The 'Das Reich' didn't become 'Das Reich' untill May 1942 (Bender & Taylors U.O. & H. of the Waffen-SS vol 2 page 80)

Agreed, info that's been known for 40 years and is in dozens of books.

Maybe buying a few books would be a good idea.

Saw a "big name" dealer sold a similar "wrong name at wrong date" item for 3K recently, so hope nothing you paid a lot for.

There is no patina to the engraving anyway, was probably done a few months ago, should be spotting that a mile away !
