        Rubbish.
SS pin for wearing in the civilian jacket lapel.(SS Zivilabzeichen)
        The number is an issue/number.
Nothing to do with SS service number.

Are the ones with issue numbers rare. I have never seen one.

another for reference. Interesting to note is the difference in the numbers of the 1st and 2nd posted are only 12 away (yet the attached pins are of a different style, any explanation for this?)

The thing that I find puzzling is where are all of the civil SS stickpins? The serial numbers of the two that are posted are near two hundred thousand. That's a lot of stickpins. I own 13185.

At the end of the war the owners quickly discarded these pins. They are metal and enamel, stuff that is pretty hardy.

We all know these stickpins are rare. So what happened to them? I would think these stickpins would be more available, nearly 200,000 were made.

I think that it is a logical hypothesis to assume they were purposely destroyed or tossed into the nearest trash can.
I know some members seem to think everyone was so proud or so willing to risk getting into trouble after the war ended that everyone must have kept all SS regalia of whatever type they had -but I strongly disagree:
All those people, as you say 200,000, suddenly found it was not something you ever wanted others to know.
