Not a trivial subject of course, but can you see the publishers clambering to publish it!!

Thanks for the tip on the book - didn't know there were any books on the subject. How are you doing after your flood problems? Your input here on rings was much appreciated by me.

ToteH,,yes!! it was a little hard to get a hold of a couple years ago!

BrianK,,my area still has many problems. It will be years before there is a recovery.
I also own a Camp jacket and pants that belonged to a Dachau inmate. It was on loan at the D.C. museum for a few years for display and used as a learning tool to teach 'authenticators'.. The set has 100% provenance to include the mans original 'pink' Gestapo arrest warrant,,Photos of him wearing the set at time of liberation, postwar photos of him working with the Brits to show the inner workings of the camp. Confirmation from Dachau now of his number and that yes he was there .
He was very involved postwar at the 'reunions' at Dachau to help former inmates to receive their benefits. A small collection of his reunion items, photos to the last piece of his gravestone that has his photo on it and " I Survived Dachau". I've lost 90% of a 35 yr collection because of Sandy. Lucky the group was at the museum or that'd be gone too. I realize now with all our problems I can not properly take care of the group and will be bringing it to sell at the MAX or for an auction... Time for someone else to display , take care and enjoy its history.......

                  Clothing

Irony: The material used in the original c.c. inmate's clothing was much higher quality than the cheap POS clothing we now wear that's made in China.

I do not think KZ cloth items really belong here. This is about SS uniforms and insignias and not prisoners or inmates that they kept. Still an item like this might get answers here because some collectors of SS also have the habit of collecting KZ items. Im not part of this last breed of collectors but I do understand them as it is an important part of history.
Items like these really should have a special forum as many others who do not collect SS in particular but also collect KZ items, and they might not see whats posted here. For instance collectors that collect documents, photos and political collectors. Or history in general.

I think you're doing the right thing with your Dachau items. I hope the militaria items you lost in Sandy were insured and you are able to stay in the militaria hobby in some way that's enjoyable for you.

BK,,all a total loss..Have a few things and still active in the hobby to a degree.

Funny how guys will collect items from the SS who tortured and murdered millions but think its sick to collect the clothes from those who survived it!

No need for another forum,,its one topic from a few Holocaust items that pop up here. No interest? don't read it!

Not wanting to add fuel to the heated debate here but some collectors think different. With the same logic items belonging to American black slaves should be posted in a forum for the confederate forces forum because the south are forever linked with slavery. (Sorry not meant to step on any toes but I had to make a comparison)

And then one would become agressive when another person said that these matters should be in a different forum? And shout - If you have no interest in the post do not read it! Not a very constructive way IMHO.

I expressed my opinion. Several others have as well. I can understand why some post KZ items here and I am not strongly against it, but I feel it should be in a different topic forum.

                          Cheers

P.s. The majority of people regards third reich collectors in general as Nazi lovers etc.

It's too bad you (apparently) lost all or most of your ring collection. It was interesting to hear your opinions on all the non HRs - "canteen rings" etc. appearing for sale.

Brian,,the rings are one of the very few things that survived!! I am currently back on GDCs 'Honor Ring' forum.. Although now mostly private purchase and cufflinks etc.

Not enough interest for a Holocaust item forum. So yes, it will occasionally appear here and there..
Some of us collect what some would call weird/off the wall items. KKK, Nazi, quack medicine etc. I know a guy that just collects amputation kits from all periods!! As long as it makes you happy that's what matters
