    Ss gorget

Looks good to me...Opinions welcome...From an old collection...

IMO it is an original one, the only part I'm not sure about is the circle with the runes SS, I usually saw it dotted and never flat; but it could be the light or it was simply refinished.

    Here's mine for comparison.

It was simply the light. I would say the gorget is a nice original one.
        Congrats for this rare piece.

There are 3 of these on 3 different dealers' websites now. Rare?

But are they rare if there are 3 different minty examples on dealer's websites?

In my opinion this is what happens sometimes I repeat sometimes.

A relatively scarce piece to find and comparably wanted by collectors piece starts to go up in value. Some sell for big prices. The big dealers know where they are in collections And they themselves seek them out maybe paying more than usual. They then put them on there sites for very high prices maybe even higher than the ones that sold . They then sit on there sites unsold for quite a long time sometimes
                    At the inflated price

Look at SS helmets there are certain dealers with a slew of original ones for sale all priced up because of the frenzy a couple of years ago by a certain few collectors.
When these were selling real big the dealers couldn't buy enough of them. The market softened a bit and there they sit.

The SS gorget is scarce but not unattainable and I don't believe the gorget market is that big like other items. They mostly wind up solely in SS or dagger collections as a compliment.

                    This is just my opinion.

Thanks for your very detailed response with which I agree 100%. I'd just like to add that demand plays a very heavy role here. IMO the gorgets that sell for$1500 to $3000 are not that much easier to locate than the SS gorgets, which retail for $8000 to $10,000 because they are SS.

There are gorgets and then there is the 1938 SS gorget.Does any dealer have one of those?

It's the same demand situation as in daggers. SS daggers are just as available as SA daggers, but they sell for 3 - 5 times the price because they are SS.
