Kai Winkler is usually a very reliable source so that's a good start.

I just never feel comfortable with this type of trap, they scare me
Too many very good copies out there Roy, be careful matey!

      Roy,
This trap looks like a nice original to me. Look at it compared to this fake embroidered one. There are differences in both the eagle and the skull..

One thing I will point out is; notice the forehead on the skull of the original is made up of long vertical stitches. Look at the fake one: It has multiple short vertical stitches. The trap you posted looks good to me.

Kuifje69, you obviously disagree, care to say why?

            Dear Roy,

About the trap IMHO if I compare this one with the ones Bob Hritz showed us some times ago I would say this one is OK, but I agree these kind of traps are so hard.

Only about your statement: Kai Winkler is usually a very reliable source so that's a good start, you always have to be careful no matter what dealer you deal with.

            Best regards,

            Rene

                      Thanks, would that be correct?
Not having black in the skull like that?

I should mention the following if it helps....
The cap is a very salty combat vet that has definitely seen service.
The trap is machine sewn onto the cap.
The stitching is not through the lining, and there is no evidence that the lining has been tampered with.
If this isn't a good one, I'll eat my hat ( sorry, I couldn't resist).

                          Perry,
yes it should be black but i think its either unravelled or more than likely faulty, snapped thread or something like that,
                          cheers,

                            Roy,
your trap looks like it is related to this original example below,
                            cheers,
