Hi Mark and Robert, let me guess with LAH bevo and Deutschland gothic flatwire cuff titles. The real question is and how did it take so long for all these mint Waffen SS tunics to surface this past year and a half. Sonny

Hi everyone,
After reading the different posts I get the feeling that many of you aren't too comfortable with the authenticity of the tunic. I'm perfertly OK with that, but can someone point out the areas on the tunic that raise doubt?
Thanks
Mark

I've gotta say I do not know anything about SS uniforms or insignia but I do like the "look" of that one! But still this means nothing...
As a little side issue that has been raised in this thread about the amount of SS uniforms available at the moment, I too find this amazing. In my experience of collecting I have seen very very few equivalent British uniforms eg. British Airborne BD Blouses compared to SS jackets etc. Can anyone account for why this is the case? The only reason I can think of is that a large number of SS uniforms have been "put together"? Or is it that no one has made any convincing British fakes because it is not worth their while, financially? Or did all the Germans hang onto their smart uniforms after the war because they were so proud of them?
Thanks in advance!

I respect this dealer, but let's take a look a few strange aspects on this tunic.
What we are looking at is a Heer contract depot dated Munich 42 tunic. We know that 5 button Heer tunics were transitioned in production to 6 buttons in mid-1941, these guys either did not get the word until 1942 or this tunic did not get depot stamped until 6 or more months after it was made. It has a rayon linning that IMO did not start getting used in Heer tunics until 1942. I have always felt that rayon linning and rbnr started appearing the second half of 1942, but I could be a little off on the rayon linnings as I realize things were sometimes made up for trials much earlier than they were formally introduced.
We have to believe that a tunic processed in a Munich depot was issued to a Berlin based unit (LAH), that is possible, but odd.
I realize that Heer items were transferred to the W-SS, so I have no show stopping problem with that. Let me ask you this: What is it about this tunic that strikes you as being pre 45 set up?
I realize that it looks correct and I also realixe that every well done fake looks correct as well. Fakes today often look more correct than the originals. My use of the word 'correct' does not equate with the term 'pre-45'.
Let me also ask, in addition to the mis-aligned pockets (top an bottom) also tell me what you think of the collar shape and closure? It does not 'lay' correct to my eyes.
I would like to have a hands on check of this tunic to establish a several things, but top on the list is if the tunic itself is period or modern and second does it have traces of Heer insignia. Actually traces of Heer insignia might be reassuring in this case.

Hello Phild, I will respectfully argue with you towards the end of your post, in that if the tunic itself is original or a modern production...but then we had to ask are the materials (wool and lining) that make up the tunic original?
Personally, I believe that the tunic itself (I don't jadge if it's an original ss one, that I don't know) is an original one and my argument is that: why some professional faker go through all these trouble creating a "modern" tunic using original material available, applying 100% original insignia and then forget that an ss tunic should have two belt hook holes instead of three ( not to mention that the lining should reach the bottom of the tunic)?

I'm with Sonny,Mark,Robert and Jack on this one! It's amazing to see how many WSS tunics has come out of the blue recently !In my opinion tunic itself is 123% genuine and so the insigna...three loops don't mean that much to me for Heer tunics were often pressed into service by the WSS and the misaligned pockets are not so rare and far between.Problem is...are the insigna original to the tunic? We should check it out in the flesh, but I wouldn't bet my money on that!
