Well, I hate to be negative but I do not like the surface appearance of this skull. Some of the sutures are also missing and the teeth appear to lack their proper shape for an Assmann. I would be very cautious here.

whatever the case is, original or not!
i just noticed that the skull sold for $700 on the site where it was posted for sale!
i believe that the buyer has noticed this thread and rushed to buy this skull!
not very wise move !!! but to each his own!

I would buy it from the current buyer.

Here are a couple more things to consider. When looking at the markings of an Assmann, I always like to see consistency in the sharpness of the letters. Here, you can see a comparison of the mentioned skull with a typical zinc skull, (keep in mind that the skull in question should be even shaper because it should be earlier). Anyway, you will notice that the "S" on "GES." of the zinc skull does not cross into the sutures. Also look at the shape of the "E". These points hold true with my aluminum version as well.

Now, lets take a look at a known reproduction of an early Assmann.
Notice the markings, but also look at the size and length of the prongs.
They are much longer and thinner than the standard Assmann nails.
Compare these prongs with the skull in question.
