    SS Ring (identificaiton help needed)

I picked up this ring today. From what I can tell it appears to be SS related as the eagle appears to be clutching SS runes and the SS moto is inscribed on the ring, but don't know much about rings so I can't say for sure. The inside is RZM marked and stamped "500".

Has anyone seen a ring like this? Can anyone positively identify it? also, I'm interested to hear comments on rarity and if anyone is willing to give opinions on value I would appreciate it. You can PM me if you don't feel comfortable posting. Thanks.

        SammyT:

Good news, it is not a reproduction. The bad news it is a fantasy. It never existed during life of the SS.

The inherent tip off is not the emblem on the ring, but the RZM stamp. A ring being a personal possession and personal choice, would not go through the RZM. The RZM was set up by NSDAP to insure uniform quality and adequate workmanship standards and fair prices for items that a member had to buy; shirt, pants, hats, ties, Party badges, etc.

Nobody HAD to buy and wear a ring as part of a Party uniform.

The mark is added to provide a patina of "Authenticity", to prove it is an original. In addition, I don't think the Germans ever bothered to Hallmark a 500 silver purity.

Some very easy spots to identify a fake even not looking on the details -

NEVER "RZM" on an original ring....

Gary, thanks for the review and the learning lesson. The fact that no RZM stamps should be on rings or personal possessions will forever be inbedded in my brain now. This learning lesson cost me $50, but now I won't make the same mistake twice. Thanks to the others for the review and comedy. I guess they really are nice looking Pigeons.
