Is that the camera, or are Himmler's shoulder boards missing the RFSS device? And yes, you can clearly see that those 3-pips are the police colors. Good eye!

Also, enjoying these tabs at home tonight with a glass of wine, I was surfing for more photos of these kinds of tabs in wear, and found this picture of Sepp Dietrich. Not really relevant, but I thought I'd share it. I have a Trachtenjacke just like that!

That wasn't the photo I was thinking of, but is actually even clearer.

            Craig, some very fine insignia!

Though actually i believe it's 3 pips for 3 men. Daluege

would have green underlay on the shoulderboards and
green collar tabs. I have seen one of his surviving tunics
            clearly showing this.

Didn't see that it was already mentioned, i should try to wake
              up before writing...

Btw, i believe i can see Himmler's oakleaves on his board.
They're probably kinda hidden due to the silver frosting

That's a great discovery, thanks. I bet you could actually still sell these on Ebay. And you're right technically ... these tabs could only have been for 3 men, though 4 held the "rank" (one set would have been green-and-gold).

In hand, you can see they were probably tunic-worn, but only 2 of the 4 people, if my memory of photos is serving me, really wore their SS uniforms much anyway. I've been searching for pictures of Ribbentrop wearing the uniform I own, to no avail. I'm sure there is a picture out there. But not really an important factor. I have had all ranks, including Himmler's (which I feel WERE part of a sample board at one time) but have never had a 3 pip General's set before.

It is really interesting to note on the pre-42 pattern how mis-matched the embroidery could be . This pair for Himmler is a really good example , I suppose of this . Anyway always nice to see high leader stuff as opposed to variations of the runic collar tab.

Yes, the idea of "mirror matching" pairs of insignia is both not realistic, and I don't think it mattered much during the period. Nobody laughed at the RFSS because his tabs weren't an 80 hour embroidery job. They had other, more "low hanging fruit" to snicker at.

I thought those boards looked familiar. If I recall, they were attributed to Dietrich, but I do not know the provenance.

Bob: Yes, that is the story I got, but I have no proof of it, or paperwork, or anything like that, so I didn't mention it.
