Helmet covers ..........good and bad

Ted has probably been collecting SS camo for close to 50 years. I remember asking him questions over 30 years ago while watching him go over every thread and fabric piece of smocks and helmet covers. Ted is a collector who has focused on German camo and probably has seen and held more examples than anyone I know. He is also an honest man and a help to all who should seek his assistance.

With respect, what I find a bit amazing about you is that you don't seem to impose those standards upon yourself.

So: Why do you think that this cover is right? Why do you think you aren't the one making a mistake here?

Oh I do make mistakes just like all of us and that is the part of learning process. I have no problem admitting that."One who makes no mistakes makes nothing at all".

So instead of engaging in pointless arguments and accusing others of making mistakes you should perhaps try to invest your time and effort to think about why these may not be right.

You call it pointless arguments? :

All components of these covers are original (clips, fabric, thread,etc).
Construction is correct.
The wear pattern is consistent with other period camo items.
These covers are in collections of many collectors, some with vast experience.
These covers are published in reference books (M.Beaver)

Do you realize how many original helmet covers you are trying to dump in garbage for no reason? because so far not a single bit of clear/solid/convincing evidence was presented for us to think why these may not be right and all the issues that you raised (single-/double-stitching, thread, wear pattern) are very subjective, only based on scepticizm and gossips, and what is most important are found on other 100% original examples.

Yes, your ongoing arguing about the double needle seam is indeed pointless (IMHO).

Well, again, there is no way these covers are real. The fake double needle stitch alone is enough to expose this cover as fake and that is a very objective and solid proof.

and all the issues that you raised (single-/double-stitching, thread, wear pattern) are very subjective, only based on scepticizm and gossips, and what is most important are found on other 100% original examples.

That point has been addressed so many times now that I am not sure whether you don't want or can't understand the matter.

Of course double needle stitching can be found on original covers - just fake double needle stitching can't be found on original covers.
