    Opinions please

My friend asked me to post the attached collar tabs and flag. I have already given my personal opinion of the collar tabs (not very favourable), but promised to post them on this forum to investigate if anybody else have seen similar tabs in the past. The runes are cut from paper and glued to the tab. The reverse of the black Bevo-like cloth does not have the usual flat (non-ribbed) edges on the reverse, but they are ribbed on the reverse to the edges. The present owner obtained these collar tabs with the background they were found in Austria just by the end of the war when there was a shortage of SS collar tabs.

Futhermore he would like an opinion on the flag - Veteran Association?

No UV reaction to any of the items.

A shortage of SS tabs? Did they try ordering from Dachau?

Are those insignia backed with cardboard? Im sure someone here will correct me if Im wrong but I understood cardboard was never used for this.

Cardboard was indeed used for the backing of some of the standard SS Bevo collar tabs, the originals SS tabs were glued to the cardboard, not sewn.

If anybody else have seen tabs similar to the above pictures, or have any knowledge of similar tabs, then please advise - thanks.

Hi Prorege1, you're absolutely right about cardboard being used as buckram on bevo runes tabs. As to the two items, I've never seen paper runes or even heard about them, and the banner looks like a fantasy piece. The bullion fringe on the bottom of the banner is like none that I've never seen, it's usually much thinner. Sonny

                  Soren,
I have seen the backing material on rank patches and have no problems with the material, however, i do have problems with these tabs, as Robert mentioned above first sign of rain and those paper runic emblems would not be there, and they exhibit no wear either, it looks to me to be a home done thing, maybe the blank patches are real and someone has added the paper runic emblems, but i do not think this has been done period.
The flag cannot comments on that not my fiels although it seems to be as strange as the collar insignia to me!
                  cheers,
                  Gary
