One of the craziest items I´ve ever seen.

Exotic and therefore indeed interesting - these are the pieces that would be stunning eye-catchers within an exhibition.

"This “coffin” was made by Fairlie man, Alec Shute, to raise money for the war effort by getting people to pay a penny to “Put a Nail in Hitler's Coffin”.

He took this all around Fairlie, the McKenzie Country and the South Canterbury districts during the war, raising money for the New Zealand war effort.

After the war, Alec Shute became a typesetter and cartoonist for the Timaru Herald. He lived in Timaru and passed away in the 1960’s.

Extensive research has failed to find anything else like it anywhere in the world. It is a very unique relic of New Zealand’s “Home Front” war effort of World War Two.

Dimensions:
160mm long, 80mm wide & 60mm deep.
It has never been altered or restored in any way, and is in really very good condition for its age. "
