I would like some of your opinions on my new SS shoulder board. I feel it is a good one but as always with my SS collecting I like to submit my items for an open discussion.

        Regards,

        Jeff

          Shoulder strap

Hi, I am no expert, but it looks good to me.

It looks ok to me, it looks like the piping is heavily worn Is the piping repaired at the top?

The 'Fl' cypher on a white-piped strap is for Heer infantry anti-aircraft units (I know because I just looked it up in Brian L Davis's book) I would have expected a red-piped strap but what the hell do I know.

On such an early board did they have red piped? I understood this was an early unit in the SS. As far as what I know, its not a lot

Is that an SS board for certain and not a Panzer signals board?

It looks like it has thread sewn over the top of the piping at the top of the strap (I maybe mistaken) if so I have seen this strap in the UK some time ago.

While the combination is correct white piping and a LATIN cipher to represent light Flak,in other words machine guns.

However as someone has pointed out it is a mid/late war strap In hindsight I would have liked to have seen it on an earlier strap

                          Ian,

Heer Flak used a gothic "FL"

                            Shoulder strap

Looks like a fine original example!

Sorry John, I'll clarify my comment ..... I didn't know what the 'Fl' was for so I looked it up in the Brian Davis Army book ... it said the 'Fl' cyphers would be on white-piped Heer straps ... I thought Flak would have been artillery but obviously I was wrong (again )
