    Dutch SS

Can anybody tell me if either of these is for the Dutch SS.

They're medals for the Mussert Guard. Two different types.

Mussert garde was formed by Henk Feldmeijer, and just before the invasion in 1940 the Mussert Garde was dissolved. During the occupation the members were reformed as "de Lijfwacht vd Leider" . Veterans of the Mussert Garde were allowed to wear this commemorative badge.

There are 2 types: one had a silver wolfhook and 2nd one had the wolfhook in gilt. Both were numbered.

(Orders, Decorations, Medalsand Badges of the 3rd reich Vol. 2 page 118)

      Originals are very, very rare.

I realy do not know if yours are original. (although the back looks promissing)

I am sure there are experts who can tell you much more about this great badge.

      Best regards,

      Rene

Indeed they are supposed to be very rare, and I have never seen an original one.In a strange way I don't believe they were ever handed out.I have yet to see the first photographic proof that someone really wore these badges.

It would seem obvious to me that the award ceremony or other events around these badges were published in the dutch NS press. To my knowledge there are no period articles.

Further I have seen the archiv of the Mussertgarde and it contains only about 30-40 pages and none of those mentioned the badge.

        Still a mystery......................

Extremely rare , but unlike the Dutch SS Sportsbadge , these were made , handed out & worn .
However - the one thing that fakers have always been wrong about , is the SIZE of these . Originals were no larger than the " Strijd en Offer " badges ..

            The very first period picture of one in wear recently surfaced & was published in " SIPO en SD in Twente 1940-1945 " by C.B. Cornelissen ;

A highly recommended publication ( ISBN 978-90-9025369-5 ) from 2010 , with a treasure trove of pictures of Dutch SD , Landwacht , etc.

                Very interesting.thanks

                Was he indentified?

It's quite curious as opppose of the name Mussertgarde most of the man involved, ended up as members of the dutch SS.The local leaders as Feldmeyer, schwing,Wolframm and Heubel became later on the first SS members. They were already before the war influenced by the german Allgemeine-SS and the rules for the Mussertgarde were almost the same as their german counterpart.
In my opinion only the Amsterdam group was pro Mussert and the other groups were trying to build a SS/Völkisch like organization.

                just my two cents!

                    Dear Tim,

The size of these pins should be (aprox) 22mm.

                    Best regards,

                    Rene

These are fake ones indeed, it's too bad the secret of their small sizes is now revealed, now without a doubt the fakers will come up with a smaller version

Photographic evidence of these is very scarce, within a few months ill show a sharp close up picture of these in wear!

                      best regards,
                      Gaston

the secret of their small sizes is now revealed??

I am sure the fakers got the books from Littlejohn, and on page 119 there is the size of this badge, so not really a secret.

                        Best regards,

                        Rene

Foreign legions page 157 shows two drawings, but does not mention their sizes? Do i maybe have a diffrent edition of the book?

                          best regards,
                          Gaston

edit: nevermind, you are right, i looked in the wrong book, indeed in Orders, Decorations, etc is their size, i did not remember that was in there! How good those books still are today!!!!

If the size wasn't a secret among NSB collectors 20 years ago , it shouldn't be now . The alternative could be that the newer version ( numbered ) fakes get to be accepted .
This has already happened with the first edition Dutch SS sportsbadge fakes - common knowledge at one time , now slowly fading into the status of originals ..
