I'm sure this has been brought up before, but here goes. I recently bought a black leather u-boat jacket from Germany, with stand-up collar, and had noticed a few things about it. First was that it seems to be made of goatskin, and not heavy horsehide like others Ive owned. Secondly the outer breast pocket is lined with black felt, the inner pocket is lined with grey cotton, and the outer ones including the arms are lined with black cotton. The sleeves have black wool cuffs that snug around the wrists, and the inner lining is also black blanket material. There are remnants of a neck tag, but its hard to make out anymore. There are no Kriegsmarine markings that can be found anywhere, and it doesnt have any Kriegsmarine buttons. The buttons are what appears to be pebbled aluminum?, painted a charcoal green which is partially worn away, and are marked "Assmann & Sohn Ludenscheid" on the obverse. The central buttons are retained by small black bakelite buttons, and all thread on the buttons appears to be original. I am aware that these were used by limited numbers of SS late in the war, but if this one, Im not sure. I guess I'm just looking for some direction on this one, we all know how many fakes are out there, and I don't care to add one more. Also if you want a pic of this, just give me your email, and Ill send what I have. I know pics help, but Im new at this. I appreciate any help with this jacket.
