Arran,
I know of only one existing example and I must confess I thought it was the silk thread that occasionally you find that ages with a yellow tinge. I haven't entirely ruled that out but it does appear that the embroidery of the name is distinctly yellow.
I don't quite understand the response to Mr. Toncar's question: "So what is the great big mystery, Mr. Toncar? Your comment appears to insinuate that such a tidbit of information should be considered mundane". It seemed like an innocuous question, am I missing something?

Although the personnel were Allgemeine-SS I have often wondered if the colour of the lettering on the sleeveband has something to do with their role in the east. Certainly all Government officials assigned to the occupied territories were directed to wear gold insignia and their sleevebands and collar piping were in golden yellow embroidery. Curiously enough "Ost" cufftitles for Generalgouvernement officials were in Gothic script as is the Umseidlungskommando title (which if issued in 1940 should have Latin lettering).
Also the "Ostbahn" cufftitle worn by railway personal while working in the occupied territories was in Gothic lettering and coloured golden yellow
Who knows, but that's my stab at it.

Thanks for the additional wisdom and insight, Derek - your display of knowledge, and willingness to share is always revitalizing and encouraging. My thoughts for the color of the lettering may not have been as comprehensively informed, but followed a similar pattern of conviction. Your argument for the color is nicely executed - let's hope definitive evidence will some day come along.

Quote: "Nice to see such an inspirational topic again, tip-toeing beyond the continually drudging arguments over legitimate totenkopf cap badges!"
I couldn't agree more. Noting the number of views this thread has seen (so far) as compared to some of the "Is This SS Toothpaste Real ??" / "Is This Piece of SS Bubble Gum Real ??" threads, it looks like there are indeed (many) others who feel the same way...
If anyone ever comes across any Orders, Regs, etc., that can give credence to - or outright prove - the Eastern "Yellow Theory" presented here, it would be very much appreciated if that info. were to be posted...
Many Thankx to all who participated in this thread....
