    SS Leather coat

    Hi,
V.A. stampings very faint to the inside, reckon it's right, any informed opinions please and any idea of value. If it's good I'm going to sell it.
    Many Thanks, D

You should go to the Army thread above and look back a week or so for the thread on the leather overcoat. I think that leather coats cut in the style of yours were the much more common seen civilian versions from the 3rd Reich era.....3 button each side double breasted maybe a 4th hidden button and flapped pockets...longer length this type lining and other things....but it is still civilian and not regulation. For me the stampings are not original and the sizes make no sense for this coat. I think that it is a bumped coat with the SS stamps that may date from the period, but has no real known connection in this specific case to the SS or anything else.

Agreed! If it does not look like this (in my brother's collection) you can forget about it being military
(but I admit there are exceptions based on period images...but this is not one of those!)
Suspect stamps. Do the sizes correspond even with the coats length? Worth checking!

OK I checked the size stamp for you...
This should have been a 3 digit number... NECK TO BOTTOM LENGHT!
              68 cm????

The SiPo/SD related SS-Ostubaf coat in post 5 is fantastic.

Many of these civilian leather coats exactly as shown in post #1 were imported into the US in 1974 by John McPherson Military Relics of Houston, Texas. Many sizes were available, in black, dark green, dark brown, & grey leather, prices from $55 to $70 each. I'm sure plenty are kicking around in Europe these days as well.
