That was my point. I wasn't the one who brought up the subject of graves. I was merely lending perspective to the subject. Even little children are aware of this phenomenon. They call it "finders-keepers". General Rule of Thumb: If you're looking for war relics (not in a cemetery), and find a skeleton and a totenkopfring, pass on the bones and keep the ring. Now, we all know that the truly ADVANCED collectors would be tempted to keep both. The bones COULD be encased in resin in the form of a mannequin, which could then be painted in a life-like flesh color, or maybe better left transparent, so the bones could be viewed. The mannequin could be displayed naked with the arms extended, ala Leonardo DiVinci, or dressed in an appropriate Waffen-SS uniform. Both approaches have aesthetic advantages, but either way it would certainly be the pie'ce de resistance of any collection.

I don't think he understood you the first time, which indeed was ironic by itself (after his own comment on hanging & raping), but this time you've really nailed it. I almost spilled my drink all over my laptop.

Thank you. All Ellmenreich's items (hope that damaged Dog tag is his too,but must verify that) will stay together in my collection. If i decided to sell it in a future, so only as a complet..Now I am waiting for ring COA (don't know how many copies will be on a market in a future) and trying to get as much info about him as I can...

These are only pieces of info I have:
He was an officer at the SS Fuhrerschule
in Tolz in 1935. In October 1945 on the dienstaltersliste it shows him
as recieving the Iron Cross First Class (L/56 as you can see:-)), the Honor Ring and Honor Sword.
He was born 1.4.12 or April 1, 1912 . His last promotion was 9.11.43 or
Novembr 11,1943 to the rank of (Sturmbannfuhrer ) and was attatched to
the (T34 Schule, Jahrgang).

And I read somewhere that about 1940 he was a member of the Wiking division...
But I need to do much more research...

I strongly suggest, that if you want the items to remain together, mount them in a closed display together, with an inscribed plate. A trophy shop through the internet can write an inscription on a brass plate, such as "Items belonging SS Sturmbannfuhrer etc., etc." Please look for my new thread later today, "Mounting SS and SA Items". I will describe how to mount these items in a SIMPLE way, but with MUSEUM quality.

Yes, you are definetely right!!!

It is always very funny if really specific kind of individuals have a need to demonstrate their ego on a novice collector...who decided - in good faith - to post his TOP item /or lot/ of his very first year in a hobby.

Kav Rgt 2 Erkennungsmarke

The Erkennunsmarke from SS-Kav.Rgt. 2 with the number 51 belongs to the former Hstuf. Johann Stahl. (That can be confirmed from the Personalake of Stahl in my Signal Officers of the Waffen-SS-Nachrichtenoffiziere der Waffen-SS publication) In 1993 Stahl wrote to me how he and Ellmenreich evaded Czech partisans to make their way from Melnik back to Germany with a third officer, Ostuf. Walter Heimsath.

Stahl Erkennungsmarke

This is the document from Stahl's Personalakte that I was referring to above. In Block 11 at the bottom of the form you will see "EM: Stab, SS-Kav.Rgt.2, 51" That's a match to the Erkennungsmarke at the beginning of this thread. Also, Stahl had a wound badge from being severely wounded in the hip on 8 February 1942 near Rshew while signal officer of SS-Kavallerie Rgt. 2. Ellmenreich was never wounded so the wound badge shown in this thread may be Stahl's. Stahl also received the EK I in January 1942 so both Stahl and Ellmenreich had that award. However, Stahl may not have thrown his away as he sent me a photo taken in October 1946 as a French POW that shows him wearing an EK I on the tunic of a German naval officer, his new identity.
