I have seen two, on hats, that I believe are original. I have never had the opportunity to see the reverse.

Duct tape can't fix stupid, but it can muffle the sound.

Bob, you can take the hat, I will keep the skull and I promise to let you see the reverse.
The job's now to persuade Gisle to part with it.

what you guys think about the dot pattern that goes around the skull?
Somehow different from known original examples, and missing details in the quality of those dotted lines.
          My 5 cents of course.

This could be only done by Jeweler, when its impossible to say, doted lines wore added by hand.

About skull looking old, does not mean its old, silver gets oxidized very fast its only takes few month of being exposed to moisture and few times touching with hands.

The skull looks good with plenty of "correct" patina, not the fake new made patina.
I am no skull collector but I love the shape on this visor

You must be happy with this one Gisle.

Here is the picture of 3 month natural oxidation, this cross was cleaned to its total shine,3 month later it looks like 60 years patina.

not saying that your skull is modern, just giving my opinion that is very possible replacement, but the hat itself is one of the best, just great

I don't like the extra hand work to the skull detail and I am not a fan of these type of pins.
The cap interior picture looks like there is a extra pinhole?
Also it looks like a casting zit on the right side of the skull in the pictures in post #2. If it were die struck, this positive would be knocked off.
Are there really silver content numbered skulls out there?

Just for info only. About 20 years ago I bought an SS hat off an infamous Cdn dealer. I was fairly new to collecting and after I had the hat for a few years I found out that the eagle and skull were known repros. I informed this dealer of this point and he immediately sent me a replacement skull and eagle. Both pieces looked again great and both were marked 900. I am telling you this not to criticize your items but simply to inform you that I'm sure that my 900 marked replacements were fake and they looked great.

                            Skull

I'm certainly not the skull expert, but the skull looks fake to me. Notice the poorly executed "fissures" that go down the center of the forehead. Nowhere close to Deschler quality. It looks like the fissures were carved using the tip of an icepick. Not keen on the cap piping either, but I'll leave that to the Waffen-SS cap experts. I don't think original piping frays that way.
