Just for clarification: The skull and eagle were from a set of "mint" artifacts that came out of a northern california veteran (I can try to find my blog post where I show the group). The unique thing is that the artifacts were all late war stuff, and all were in STONE mint condition (probably due to them being unissued, and also due to them being stored in the desert environment). There was an Army Paratrooper badge in zinc, with 100% of the finish remaining, that was also initially thought to be repainted, that was in the group. However, subsequent discussion on GMIC forum showed this not to be the case.

Here's a picture of the hoard, and you can access the blog from my homepage (look at the "B" logo at the bottom of the page in the other social media icons). I was in competition for the group, with other dealers, who got the same photos I did. I just lived close enough, and paid the lady's airfare to my office, so that won at the end of the day!

No problem. It's the only set I've sold from my collection of these, and I am glad it went to you! Hooray for Facebook!

The differences you see in the teeth should also be because of die wear.
I'll see if I can post some pics of some of mine soon.
I have an aluminum variation that is very rare and it is of a very late strike.
There was a crack that occured in the die and you can see some flaws that are quite interesting.

              Best,

              Chris

Here is a CupAl version with tab crimps. This is a mid period Zimmermann. Notice where the flaw has just started to occur.

Here is the later aluminum one. It has tab crimps too. Here, you can see where the flaw that is on the CupAl one has now spread into the crossbones. Also, the suture lines have some flaws too.
The teeth, also worn a bit on the dies.

                      Best, Chris
