memento mori skull pin?

hi experts,

i bought this nice skull made of bone as a memento mori pin.

the pin looks like period WW1-WW2. has anybody seen such pin worn by members of freikorps or ss?

It has some nice details!

Photos with skull stick pins are rare. Sorry, I have never seen a photo with a similar skull like this one.

In my opinion at least the skull - if not the whole piece - is possibly much older than WW I/WW II period.

Therefore I would like to see other detailed pics of the needle and how it´s been connected with the skull.

These memento mori pieces can be hundreds of years old.

That is correct. Such things were very popular in the centuries before.

Here the pin, it is in the style of WW1 and WW2 tinnies.

The pin itself is stuck in a tinny hole in the skull. no glue is used.

Thanks for the additional pics.

I cannot imagine this being used as a sort of tinnie.

If the skull has indeed always been in connection with the needle it could be still way, way older or for example a nice souvenir brought home from one of the colonies.

I think this is well worth to take it to a specialized german auction house since most of them offer inspection days for gathering nice unexplored art pieces from private households for their coming auctions - I still highly doubt that this piece has anything to do with WW I or WW II period.

I have one that is almost identical, but with little diamonds in the eyes. I believe it to be 19th C.
