wait what others say...at least it is marked Hofstätter but the needle twists look strange to me also the numbers

Its a pretty low Number and the digits look different to the known originals...IMO a better fake

I'm not so sure that it's a fake. See this thread:

          http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ighlight=ss-za

If you scroll to the bottom of the page, you will see an example with the same number font.

As for the twists on the pin, I've seen different styles on these pins.

          Thoughts?

Well, based on these pictures I don't see an immediatly red flag. I have different genuine examples with different pin knurls but much higher numbers. These numbers are very tiny, otherwise they would not fit on the badge. So a low number in larger font is IMO possible.

Most low numbers are found on the real Gahr Badges and are engraved. This is the first time I see a low numbered Hoffstätter. IMO it makes it more valuable then a common high numbered one. Especially because the number is really low. If you could trace the original owner it would be even greater!
Some people keep records of these numbers wit the names of the SS-man.

                  Regards, Wim
