    Hammerhead eagle??

    Good evening Gentlemen!

Up for discussion is this SS sleeve eagle that I have for sale on the e-stand.
I have got a PM telling me it is not a Hammerhead eagle. Sender of the PM told me it is a Rzm eagle but NOT a Hammerhead eagle.

So I offered to bring it up for discussion.

Since it is not fair to put my opinions or arguments in the start, I will let you have a shot.

All comments are welcome, bad or good. Just keep it relevant to the topic.

    Cheers,
    Felix

IMO this is a very nice Hammerhead eagle but not an early VT example.
I have frequently seen this eagle (on period pictures) on M40 or M36 tunic but never on a M37 VT.
IMO this is an early war example.

Here are some eagles I have. You can see the earley hammerhead that was used by the SSVT.

I am the guilty party that sent the P.M. I confess! I have always been confused on these eagles and mix them up. As a fallback I always refer to friends that have been collecting SS insignia for 25 years plus. Here is what they say:

          These are Hammerheads:

These are not, they are RZM early style...at least that is what I am told by the SS insignia old timers. Maybe the newer collectors have re-defined the type. I see them as distinctly different.

There were more than two types of hammerheads..Felix's is one of them a later version than the earlier VT type.

There have been a lot of views with few opinions. I know Bob Hritz had a nice one for sale a while back and it was the type I refer to. There is a huge price difference between the two types posted and it would be nice to hear from some of the old time collectors that have passed on their lore to me. I will try and dig up some of the old posts on hammerheads.

No worries at all, you have a textbook hammerhead . I will post examples of mine soon. Regards, Grant

                              Felix,

Here are my loose examples of the Hammerheads and early RZM eagles. I have a few more on tunics which I did not photograph. Anyway, IMHO, there are only four types of eagles which I have seen on VT tunics. I have some studio portrait pictures showing two of the four examples being worn. My photo collection isn't as large as other members here on the forum, therefore it would be nice if we can get someone to show pics of them being worn.
