It´s not silly to ask! I am not an Idiot and I dug out a lot of Variations of Skulls and Eagles etc. during a period of 20 Years. Most of them were well known marked; This one has confused me and I just want to hear Opinions what other Collectors are able to read. I don´t know what´s silly in that? No good breeding, Soldat

Thanks to all other kindly answers

This is simply a matter of corrosion.

If you recognize that the skulls and eagles by each maker were all distinct and different than those by any other maker (which is correct), then how could you look at a skull, which is identical in every way (design, materials, construction) to known Zimmerman skulls and question whether this one was made by a different maker, with a previously unknown SS maker number, which happens to be off of the correct Zimmermann number by one digit? That is silly.

What's really silly is the amounts of money we pay for these little bits of alloy!

That one has an unusual pin for Zimmermann's conical crimps.
