The SS sports plaque from 1939 is made from earthenware pottery, toned green to resemble antique bronze. Note the central design - obviously based on the SS Long Service Decoration!

That is in fact Allach.

The tone tends to be blackish green, but if put under light will be a brownish color.

And it is more like pottery thatn porcelain.


Had one in the original Allach box and believe to be a sports award for ss.

Here is one that I have. It is made from a sort of clay material...it is unmarked on the back:

The double runes quality mark was also used by SS pottery works in Bohemia, at Neuengamme near Hamburg, etc. The mark was used to show that the piece concerned met the 'artistic standards' set by the SS. Hence its use also as a proof mark on dagger chains, swords, Gahr jewellery, etc. Pieces made at Allach usually had the word 'Allach' below the runes. Those made at the Bohemia Works had a 'B' beside the runes. Neuengamme and others had the runes only. I've only ever seen another two of these circular 1939 SS sports plaques, one in a Forman catalogue back in the '70s and the other in a German book about the Allach Porcelain Factory. I picked up this one at a militaria fair in Ebernhahn a couple of years ago. There can't be many of them around. The obverse design is clearly based on the SS Long Service Decoration, which would have been introduced only a year or so before the plaque was made. I suppose it would be the 'in-design' at the time. It makes a nice accompaniment to a display of SS service awards. Sort of 'completes the set'!

I can tell you I have owned one that was in the original allach box and inspected another boxed from allach.

I guess its possible that others may have produced these, but of course they are identical to yours.

You dont see them often but once in a while one will pop up.
