White cloth skull - opinions please ..

Posting this one for a friend of mine - personally I would like to think it is O.K. , please let me know your thoughts ..

Now would the fact that it is so white mean this is an earlier make ( than the more commonly seen pearly grey ones ) , or am I missing something ?

So do I , but first I'd like to give him an honest answer about the color ..
Since I've seen more grey ones , I may assume it is more rare - but is it earlier ?

I do not know if the representative color of the skull from a gray to white as this one is, is in any way indicative of vintage with regards to production era or if it is more of a sign of maker's preference, I do know that on some Heer Breast Adlers that when white as opposed to gray thread is used these are considered earlier examples, as to whether the case with SS TKs is the same I can not say but when you do consider that white does show stains and has a tendency to fade it could be possible that with field use a switch to gray was made and that would then mean that the white skulls did predate the gray examples.

                Best,

                John

Hi, I think Heer eagles changing from white to grey was a visibility issue, with white insignia being too visible, so the change to grey was about 'cammoflage', though if this applies to SS skulls, I cant say.

Thanks for all comments .. !

I had thought of the analogy with white & grey WH insignia , but had never noticed anyone describing a cloth skull as being either " white " or " grey " ..

Turns out this skull came together with the following RZM tab & Overhoff buckle ( nice early one , slightly smaller in size ) .
A great set - and the owner will NOT part with them ..
