              3 prong skull

It is a standard 3 prong skull. Nothing unlike any other. Someone wrote SS on the back.

They did appear on repro Alteste visor hats in the late 1960's along with what is described as the original Assman late war eagle. Why the skull is controversial and eagle real is for me a subject of great debate. There are many posts on this subject. I think there is a good possibility the skull is real. I am waiting to be proven wrong and would accept that proof should it arrive.

I say both the three pronged skull and eagle on the Alteste is fake. The ball is in your court to prove they are real..

Lets just see one real un-messed visor with with this insignia

And why in your word is the unmarked eagle a fake ? They have been well documented to be of late war production by even the most seasoned and respected insignia collectors for many years . I have purchased 2 of these from ww2 vets themselves . the vets did not collect crap over the years nor did one of them even open the box his relics were in in many years . Also when i purchased these eagles they were with other items of 100% period production. I very much agree on keen scepticism ,but this to me is very wrong !

I've owned a couple of SS visors that had the unmarked late Assmann eagles just like the ones found on the Alteste caps. If these eagles were fake and made up at the same time (supposedly) as the skulls, why not put the labor-saving side prongs on them too? Of the two caps I've had that used this eagle, one was an EM's cap and it was paired with a "Ges. Gesch" marked skull, and the other was on an officer's cap and paired with an M1/24 skull. Both caps were what I would characterize as later war, and there's an officer's one on Collector's Guild right now that appears to have one of these eagles. Some of these eagles are found with very faint 155 markings...

                              Thanks Arran,

thought was the same prongs systeme as the skull, of course I've offen seen this eagle on late war caps, no problems with this kind of eagle.

and what do the members think about this WH set (same prong type) ?
