    John Pen.
After KZ Dachau was rebuilt in 1937/8, the new commandant Oberfuhrer Hans Loritz introduced the striped uniform. It superceded the white drillich type uniforms seen in early photosof the KZ. Up until very late in the war, on being processed, all prisoners had to strip, hand over all their clothes and possessions which would be held in storage. (Before war broke out a released prisoner would get his gear andmoney back. During the war, release was practically unheard of in Dachau - although it did happen now and then) By 1945, the massive influx of prisoners into the KZ Dachau system (eg Dachau main camp was built to house c.5000 prisoners - at liberation there were about 32,000 crammed in there) from the camps that had been evacuated in the east meant that there were simply not enough special KZ uniforms to issue. The civilian clothes that were kept in storage were issued to prisoners with a big X cut in the back (specifically the backs of top coats and jackets). The X would have been patched in a contrasting colour, either in the workshops (Dachau was the "home" of those famous SS bonesacks) or by the prisoner who got issued the jacket himself. The X not only identified the potential escaped prisoner but also had the added "bonus" of being an aiming point, just like the "Fluchtpunkt" worn on teh regular KZ uniform by prisoners who were deemed to be of a high escape risk.

As to the female shirt in question here - I think it is trying too hard. In addition to what has already been discussed on this thread, the prisoner numbers are a bit odd - very low considering the numbers of prisoners at Dora and they are not the same (If the shirt had been reissued the older number would have been replaced when it was reissued) In any event, I have never read or heard about or seen any KZ uniforms with anything on the back apart from the Fluchtpunkt, which looked a bullseye target - for that was what it was.

Schultze my old mate, I was wondering when you were going to pop up and denounce this "shirt".

No, and I don't see whatever the similarity between the J and the A is either. It would be so nice if you could just say it and not hint.

I spotted the A and V same stencil thing myself. You said compare the J and the A. Was that just a typo? What does "hospital lab in Dachau mean?

              Thanks

                Sal:

You are correct - looking back I did indeed make a typo- I meant to write A and V, not J and A.

The "Hospital lab in Dachau" comments refers to one of the most infamous WAF threads of all time...do a search ("SS Lab Coat", or something like it, is the title) and read all 6 million pages of it...I think you will then easily put my "Dachau" comment into the proper perspective.

I must say that if "the item speaks to you", is a legitimate thing to say, then it is also legitimate to say an item "screams fake" which this one does to me.

The "SS Lab Coat" thread is unquestionably the WAF's best "cheap entertainment" thread ever posted......certain people will forever have to live with the shame of being associated with that one....

Anyways, I also agree that this "KZ Shirt" is definitely a "SScreamer".....

I thought, as you yourself stated in another thread, you were going to "keep your yapper shut". You are now going against one of the smartest things you've ever said.
Can you just make use of your knowledge here without making (in)direct and cryptic digs and jibes at other members??

                        Get a grip.

                        Besst regardss,

John, I speak for many when I say that your little game is getting quite boring...

If you really have something against me, then by all means, please do show some personal courage by way of initiating, and taking the lead attack role in, a thread about me in the Collectors Community Forum (or whatever section you deem appropriate).

At any rate, there's really no need to carry on this "KZ Shirt" thread.....it imploded itself just like the SS Lab Coat thread did....

                                Oh please.

It is your "Holier than Thou" attitude that utterly bores the hell out of any and all members I have ever spoken with.
Like I said before, your knowledge is appreciated here....just not your manners that can be such a dreadfull bore......and may I add here,
I will continue to call you out on it every time I see it.

And, I agree, this thread is done.

                                Best regards,
