I just saw a very interesting program about laser-milling. The little bicycle is made out of a 2mm thick plate of stainless steel. The larger laser-milling machines can cut with up to a 0,1mm accuracy. The fake/original photo is borrowed from member SScollector. It is easy to see why it is an easy job to laser-mill items in 2012.

I just saw a very interesting program about laser-milling. The little bicycle is made out of a 2mm thick plate of stainless steel. The larger laser-milling machines can cut with up to a 0,1mm accuracy. The fake/original photo is borrowed from member SScollector. It is easy to see why it is an easy job to laser-mill items in 2012.

Imo these fakes aren't laser milled but cast, using molds taken from a master. The back has a CAD program look to it, that's possible using pre mold composite plastics.
Anything can be made, down to the finest detail but the fake skull face says cast to me and not laser milling in this case imo. I'll ask for an opinion at work when the heat dies down from the engineers.
If you send me an original even better and I'll see how cost effective it is to spit out a couple of hundred, you want brass or steel nuts?

I'm sorry, but a simple 2 mm piece of metal in the shape of a tiny bicycle is far from milling out a perfect coin or tuxedo badge.
If it could be done, then it would have already been done many times by now. Of course, I am not saying they cannot make very high quality repros this way, but not perfect.
Here is an idea. Make a perfect Morgan silver dollar and then send it to a professional coin grading service and have it authenticated and slabbed. Then, you can provide all of us with the proof. My money says that you can't do it.

SS Collector is right. The Chinese have been faking coins, and they are easy to spot if you collect coins. if you don't, sure ... you can get fooled.
