Perhaps this does not belong in this thread, but I heard that original die forms for the SS officer belt bucle has been found and is used to make copies today. Its true? Some alu fakes are very good on the front but the give away is the back and the attaching.

I think that buckle on iOffer is just a tad overpriced,

Seriously, there have been no original dies used on repros. There have been several new made dies, (some are really nice, and some like iOffer are not), but the good castings like the one on the e-stand are always the best fakes, IMO. They have some really nice EM buckle fakes now too.
I saw an 822 cast that was phenomenal a few months ago.

This was an extremely interesting and informative thread. Threads like this help all of us learn and knowledge keeps collectors from getting scammed. I'm amazed that 100 badges priced at $8k or more a pop can be gobbled up that quickly. Are there really that many collectors out there with these kinds of greenbacks that have an interest in this particular item?

Yes - I have borne (sp?) personal witness to such events at least a few times - not necessarily TR- related every time . . . but at least from some previous "conflict" of the past. Without a doubt, I am convinced there are far more people out there in the World who are much better "well-heeled" than at least 95% of anyone that collects this stuff! Contrary to popular belief (here?) . . . we truly are "small-potato's" (or is it "po-ta-toes" ??? )

It's rather typical that the advanced people who gave them a thumbs up are not here to teach us why they're good ...

I don't think it went that high, seems there was a large quantity discount deal done, cant say I know the price per on that but it adds up high. D.B Winkler was lat seen parachuting into Heidelberg with a large feminine handbag full of U.S currency. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to go to the Winkler Tuxedo Badge Fund Return Thread.

A curious aspect as to what the US tax man thinks, plans or is considering since all is common knowledge, open to public view and now out in the open. Transacted here and big cash going back to Europe. That is of course, unless he declared all on the club provided IRS forms and paid.....

Also curious how he was able to take that amount of cash out of the country without problems unless he declared it.......

After amends and refunds, curious if his problems have ended. Might be food for thought that he might want to stay level and clean and very friendly.

This is far from a couple of hobbyist's trading collar tabs or Iron Cross'

First let me say i dont buy alot of TR stuff anymore reason why is these fakes conmen and the price real stuff brings. But i say its high time we all do something to protect ourselves from all these things. First we need to use a zero tolerance attitude to dealers or anyonee selling fakes. Second we need to run these conan dealers out of the business and expose them for what they are. Then maybe we could start to see some younger collectors coming into the hobby. As long as the hobby is just a gamble we can be sure that generation x and those that come after will stay away. I know the age gap has been talked about on other threads time and time again but its true. At the SOS this year the attending crowd was 85% over 50 can anyone say thats not the truth? We have to get rid of the crooks to get the younger collectors back. If we dont do something this will turn out bad for all of are familys after we are gone and its time to sell are collections. You miite not care if when your gone your family has to give your collection away but are loved ones will. So its time to act and not by complaining on this forum its time to get seriously mad and do something.

John that is only if they also did not know what was going on..if some bought these in quantity I might suspect there was a behind the curtain deal going on where these were going to be pushed as "variants" by some dealers...but some real collectors caught the act in progress and the whole thing was burned....we have seen other supposed variants brought "out of the woodwork" by dealers in the past and with a cadre' of their protectors giving credence. Its a conspiracy theory I know but ....???<!-- / message -->

                            John,

I follow what you're saying however, my hypothesis was aimed toward Kai and his liabilities.

Who the heck can you trust anymore? If guys with a good reputation are giving their ok's willy-nilly and then disappear when the alarming facts come to light - what hope has this hobby got?

Sure this is still just a hobby, though if someone ripped me off to the tune of 100k+ then their days left on this earth would be numbered...

What action if any can be taken against Winkler....?
