Bruce Hermann had one for sale on his website in 2005, the price was $4,500.00, though his did not have the red cloth behind the eyes.

    P.S. Welcome to the forum.

I see one of these is selling on ebay right now!! It's described as being original and the bid is up to 127.00. The auction still has a couple of days to play out.

If the seller says it's origial, I am sure he knows what he is talking about and wouldn't lie. I guess I better go break my piggy bank and make a bid.

The badge on ebay is the usual cheesy fake...not even close.

What a shock!! I always thought ebay was the best source for rare SS pieces.

It makes me laugh that ebay will go ban crazy on anything with a swaz (save stamps, coins or books) but they're totally oblivious of a totenkopf symbol (granted it's been around since the 18th century) but the words on the badge are purely SS /NSDAP. Fake as it is, this one got past the censoring radar.

The only censoring done on ebay is by greedy collectors/dealers turning the auctions in to try and back door a deal and remove the competition. Ebay only looks at an item after it is turned in by good citizens (a$$ holes), they do not police their own site.

While that sort of sabotage certainly occurs frequently, I am quite certain that eBay has software running that screens for keywords and automatically flags new listings for review by someone if one of those keywords is used in the title or description.

Sure, when an authentic TK turns up on eBay, it runs the risk of getting pulled, because someone jerk is trying to keep the competition from seeing it. However, I have seen obvious fakes get yanked as well. The reason, in my opinion, is that the listing included words (like "SS") that caused it to be flagged, while other listings for similar items used code words (like "elite" or the substitute "XX"), which passed the screen and flew in under the radar.

Officially, per eBay's rules, any symbol of the SS is banned. However, eBay's screeners don't know what any particular skull represents per se. Therefore, skulls will be sold all day long, so long as the lister (or some saboteur) does not identify it as being an SS skull. Once a skull (or other item) is identified as being a symbol of the SS, it becomes a prohibited item and is likely to disappear.

I ve summed it up this way for EBAY listing policies and policing skills..IMO

" The EBAY sword of justice swings WILDLY and BLINDLY with NO REGARD to RHYME or REASON... Billbert "
NO doubt people and collectors dime items out BUT ebay definitely has people booting in there view the undesirable... write the wrong word and poof...

The final irony (and insult to us) in my view in the absolute proliferation of modern ****ty FAKES that FULL the ebay halls of ale.. you could buy a hundred brand new SS hats in a day if you want.. politically correct??my ars.. its all about the listing bucks!!

Arriving late to the party, but would like to know what these badges are made of. I have been told they are only of aluminum. Is that so? Are they stamped or cast? I own one that appears to be cast nickel-silver. I' be always suspected it was likely cast postwar from a genuine example. Thanks for any help.
