    five button three hole?????

Question my friends. I am a little confused. After researching Beavers SS book and Huart and Borg's Feldbluse Book. Are there any distinguishing characteristics between a m40 3 hole and 5 button tunic for Heer or Waffen SS .
If I am interpetting it correctly. The early Heer m40 had 5 buttons and 3 ramp holes and the Waffen SS used the same. Is it the color or some other characteristic?
Are they all really just Heer tunics?

I own two salty(mothy but no big holes) but what appear unissued. They 3 hole and 5 button. and the silky rayon lining ,which I believe was later used in the 6 button Heer.

    Thanks

So they are all Heer M40 model tunics, no special SS characteristics.
Are all 5 button early in the run then and 6 button later ,or where the 5 still button being made for the SS ? Where the ones issued for the SS then produced without the breast eagle. My understanding all Heer models were issued with the breast eagle from the factory. Sorry if my questions are confusing.

A very complicated question since there were tunics made for the SS that resemble the heer type and during the 1939-41 period SS troops did use heer type tunics..infact they used them throughout the war but less frequently it seems.

John , Yes Thanks. Now the tunics that were made for the SS that resemble the Heer Tunics specifly the M40 are there any distinct characteristics that denotes one as SS. Would it be the color.

The SS used army issue tunics in 1939-?. ....in 1942 the two hole type tunic with unpleated pockets started being produced for the SS.

How many holes a tunic has is no way to determine if it is originally SS issued unless it is an M42-43 model tunic...those had two holes .
